How to Enter Hours

 Heads up! This article is intended for volunteers. 


Once you complete a volunteer opportunity, you can track your hours and build your volunteer resume! There are a few ways to add hours to your profile. Every site is set up different. If you run into any issues or have any questions about submitting hours or your submitted hour entries, please reach out to your program facilitator, volunteer coordinator, or the site's manager for help. Here we cover: 


How to enter hours 

There are a few ways to enter your volunteer hours, depending on the type of hours you're trying to enter: 


Opportunity Hours

These are hours that you want to submit for an Opportunity you responded to on the site. 

1. Log into your account. 

2. Click Add Hours from the top menu bar. 

3. Under Hour Type, select Yes

4. Select the Opportunity with the Select an opportunity dropdown. 

  • Don't see the Opportunity listed? You may want to reach out to your program facilitator, volunteer coordinator, or the site's manager for help. 

5. If the Opportunity had shifts, select the Shift you want to submit hours for. 

  • If the Opportunity didn't have shifts, go ahead and skip to the next step. 

6. Answer all required Hour Details fields, as applicable. 

  • If you selected a shift for the Opportunity, then that shift information populates in the Hour Details field. 
  • Be sure to check that information and make any corrections now, as applicable. 

7. Answer Hours Questions, as applicable. 

8. Click Submit Hour Entry when done. 

  • Your hour entry may need to be approved before its status changes from Pending to Approved in the Volunteer Hours table. 

So you know: You follow the same steps for submitting an hour entry if you click the +Add Hours button from the Track Hours area. 

Quick tip: You can also get to the Hour Entry form from the Opportunity Responses area by selecting Add Hours from the Select an action dropdown under Options in the table. 


Individual Hours

These are hours that you worked outside of a posted Opportunity on the site.  

1. Log into your account. 

2. Click Add Hours from the top menu bar. 

3. Under Hour Type, select No

4. Fill out the Individual Details fields. 

5. Answer all required Hour Details fields. 

6. Answer Hours Questions, as applicable. 

7. Click Submit Hour Entry when done. 

  • Your hour entry may need to be approved before its status changes from Pending to Approved in the Volunteer Hours table. 

So you know: You follow the same steps for submitting an hour entry if you click the +Add Hours button from the Track Hours area.

Plus-one Hours

A plus-one hour is used when you brought a friend to a volunteer Opportunity, but they don't have their own account on the site. You can add plus-one hours for those friends when submitting your own hours. This attributes those hours to your account and ensures the organization maintains accurate hours reporting for volunteers with and without accounts. To add plus-one hours to your hour entry: 

1. Log into your account. 

2. Click Add Hours from the top menu bar. 

3. Fill out the Hour Type and Hour Details fields. 

4. Under Plus-one Hours, check Yes

5. Complete the required fields by sharing how many volunteers came with you and who they were—e.g., 2, family. 

6. Finish filling out the Hour Entry form and click Submit Hour Entry

  • Those hours are now attached to your account.
