Heads up! This article is intended for site managers. If you're a program facilitator looking for more information about how to review your programs, click here!

Does your organization have opportunities that require waivers, age restrictions, or special training to qualify? You may want to set up some prerequisites to confirm that the volunteers who respond to those opportunities meet certain requirements. Prerequisites are a great way to ensure volunteers respond to opportunities that best match their abilities! You can also use prerequisites to ensure volunteers are reviewing important content on your site—like your organization's privacy policy. In this article, we'll cover:

How to review prerequisites

When a volunteer submits a prerequisite, you'll be able to review and approve them by navigating to Volunteerism > Prerequisites from your site manager panel:

  • This takes you to the Prerequisites area on your site where you can create and manage them.
  • Click Approvals from the Manage Prerequisites page to review the ones submitted by your volunteers:

  • The Approvals area displays pending prerequisites, who submitted them and when, their response, and their current status:

Statuses and what they mean

There are six statuses to choose from on the Pending Prerequisites page:

  • Qualified: This status means the volunteer has met the prerequisite requirements and can respond to opportunities that have the prerequisite assigned to them.
    • An automated notification is sent to the volunteer to notify them that they're qualified if you've set it to active.
  • Pending: This is the default status for prerequisites that require your approval.
    • Volunteers can change their prerequisite responses when they're set to Pending.
  • Not Qualified: If the volunteer hasn't met the requirement for the prerequisite, you can set their status to Not Qualified.
    • An automated notification is sent to the volunteer to notify them that they're not qualified if you've set it to active.
    • Volunteers can't edit their responses with this status.
  • Re-submit: You can use this status when a volunteer submits the wrong response to a prerequisite question and needs to resubmit their answer.
    • An automated notification is sent to the volunteer to notify them that the prerequisite status has been set to Re-submit if it's set to active.
    • Volunteers can edit and re-submit their responses for the prerequisite from the Prerequisites area of their profile.

  So you know:

  • When the status for a prerequisite response is set to Expired, an automated notification is sent to the volunteer to let them know it's expired if you have it set to active.
    • With this status, volunteers can edit and resubmit their responses for the prerequisite in the Prerequisites area of their profile.
  • Inactive works the same as Not Qualified
    • This means the volunteer won't be able to view or respond to the opportunity with this prerequisite attached.
    • They also can't edit or update their response to the prerequisite.

How to approve prerequisites

You can also approve or deny prerequisites from this area by selecting Qualified or Not Qualified from the dropdown menu under Status
